Villa Patellani Giulini was designed and built in 1883 by Engineer Enrico Rosa, from whom it took its original name, as a vacation home. The town of Monticello Brianza was chosen for its splendid view of the alpine arc and its location on the main route connecting Milan and Lecco. At the time, the villa was reached by carriage.
Engineer Rosa showed great affection for Serafino, the son from his wife Giuseppina Patellani’s first marriage. Giuseppina, a doctor and professor at the University of Milan, ensured the villa was left as an inheritance to Serafino. Around 1935, Serafino’s wife, Mina De Ponti Patellani, undertook a renovation, following the acquisition of adjacent land plots. During this time, the stable was transformed into a caretaker's house.
The renovation primarily involved relocating the original staircase connecting the basement to the first floor. The goal was to make the ground floor entrance (which housed the living room, dining room, breakfast room, and kitchen) more spacious by moving the staircase to the southeast side of the central structure.
During the war, the villa provided refuge to a Jewish family for a period.

In 1969, the property was transferred to Mina’s daughter-in-law, Francesca Carpi De Resmini, the wife of surgeon Professor Eugenio Patellani.
The villa underwent additional renovations in 1963 and 1993, focusing mainly on the upper three floors where the bedrooms were located. A second kitchen was added, and some bedrooms were converted into living spaces, creating a complete living area on the second floor.

The renowned conductor Carlo Maria Giulini, along with his wife Marcella, often stayed as a guest of the Patellani family. The villa still preserves one of his pianos, as well as numerous memorabilia and honors.

The current owners, Elisabetta Patellani and Alberto Maria Giulini, decided to carry out a major restoration of the building. The project aimed to respect the original architectural spirit, maintaining the welcoming atmosphere the villa has always had. Renovations began in June 2016 and were completed in spring 2023. The ground and first floors were converted into reception halls, while the bedrooms were preserved on the remaining three floors.
It is patent that the villa has always been closely tied to the Patellani family and its descendants; the decision to restore the building was driven entirely by emotional and familial considerations.
